Introduction to Computer Science In this stage, I have watched an introductory video about computer science and what a computer scientist does in general. According to this video, computer science is a certain way to impact the world. This course will provide more information about computer science and why it is important to know. Stage 2. The Maze Here, I learned the basics about coding through different games. In the first one, I helped an angry bird move through a maze in order to get to the evil pig. In order to write a program, I needed to drag and drop blocks correctly. Also, by using the â€Å"repeat† block in the game I learned how loops are valuable and how computer repeat commands can be useful so people do not waste their time. Next, I had to use â€Å"repeat until† block to set determined goals such as until the angry bird gets the pig. Another game was about a zombie that I needed to feed, where I also used â€Å"repeat until† command to achieve the goal. Besides, I learnt about fundamental concept in programming – â€Å"if† statement. By using â€Å"if† commands the computer program makes a decision. Then, I learn about â€Å"if/else† block command, which made a decision what zombie should do choosing between the two actions. There were some struggles that I have fa ced. The Psychological Portrait in The Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte Perkins Gilman was famous in her time as a womens activist. Later, she began writing fiction. As noted in her Norton Anthology biography, Charlottes stories often reveal her worldview. The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story written to combat the modus operandi for curing depression in her day. This cure consisted of being completely sequestered from any intellectual or artistic engagements. Her addendum to the story also makes clear she experienced this same treatment. Gilmans catalyst was to write a story that would serve as a social corrective. What we are left with today is a masterpiece of psychological suspense. The reader learns her brother is also a physician, and supports this method of treatment. She asks the reader if a physician of high standing, and ones own husband, assures friends and relatives that there is really nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous depression...what is one to do?(658). Any attempt on her part to question this method has been effectively undermined. At this point in the story, we begin to understand she already feels trapped. Next, she confesses her writing does tire her. However, it is not the writing itself that wears her out, but rather having to write on the sly that she finds mentally taxing. Today, we can easily imagine this intellectual sequestering as a suitable form of torture, especially for an artistically inclined individual like the author and main character. At the time, this type of cure was commonplace, and the author was no doubt eager to see them abandoned. Again, her primary purpose here appears to be writing as a social corrective. Compare and contrast the actions Essay Compare and contrast the actions, characteristics and language of Romeo and Juliet before they meet and at the end of the play, with particular reference to act 2 scene 2 and act 5 scene 3 In Romeo and Juliet there are two main changes in character, most definitely until they met each other they seemed to be much different than they are later on in the play. Before they met at the banquet Romeo was in Love with Rosaline and he is disheartened and depressed and he used to feel sorry for himself sad hours seem so long because Rosaline didnt feel the same way about him. Juliet was a rather immature child and was under strict supervision of her parents, she was kept from the outside world, and didnt really have much of a life outside her home. She couldnt really have a proper relationship because she was only to have a lover if her parents agreed with them or chose them for her. They definitely wouldnt have agreed with her to marry Romeo because he is a Montague and she was a Capulet. As soon as Romeo and Juliet meet each other they share a sonnet with, and this really shows signs of maturity. In act 2 scene 2, this is only a few hours after the banquet we can see from Juliets proposal of marriage that she is willing to follow throughout the world This shows how Juliet matured in the space of one evening, after falling in love with Romeo she now feels much more independent and now she can even see her life in a different perspective, and maybe even parted from her family. On the other hand Romeo realises he has found the woman he wants to do be with for the rest of his life and uses such language to demonstrate his love for her there lies more peril in thine eye than twenty of their swords he would prefer to die by 20 of the capulets swords rather than living without her love. Romeo uses such language to emphasise that she is worthy and angel like, two of the fairest stars in all the heaven he is comparing her eyes to the bright stars of the night, and he also us es other imagery to express his opinion of her beauty The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars her cheeks are even brighter and more attractive than her eyes. Romeos has a sudden change of heart from Rosaline, he realises Juliet is the one from him and he was more in love with being in love before, but now he is no longer love sick and he has changed and he does love her and believes its not just a crush. In act 5 scene 3 Romeo has a sudden change of character when he meets with Paris, Paris acts very aggressive and full of hatred towards Romeo for killing Tybalt and blames him for the suicide of Juliet, but Romeo doesnt want to kill Paris all he wants his to die next to Juliet, put not another sin upon my head Romeo begs Paris not to fight. In Romeos death speech there is an extended change of character from Romeo, He apologises to Tybalt With that hand that cut thy youth in twain to sunder this that was thine enemy he wants the man who killed tybalt to die and that is himself so he is dedicating part off his death to tybalt. When We are Old Essay One month ago, my father had arthritis and a toothache at the same time. He lost his appetite and was indisposed to finish his meal. He moved painfully and soaked himself strongly with methyl salicylate. His smell of methyl salicylate was so strong that it could go into my room; I breathed it sleeping. Late at one night, in this smell of methyl salicylate, I had a dream. There I saw my body lying still and suppurating. I saw myself feel painful, impotent and scared. I awoke, and immediately thought about my grandpa in Vietnam. I wondered if his clothes were warm enough for him to survive this harsh winter, if he was too old to live through another winter. Then I remembered what he had said to me, Granddaughter, Im old already, I dont eat much, and I dont need much. So, dont worry about me. Ill be fine.   I regained my calmness for I knew I always believed in my grandpa; I believe that he will be fine. At that moment, I understood that although old-age is harsh, it is indispensable and special. A granddaughter would find her grandma aged, winkled up and doting, but she doesnt realize that charm she has, she inherits it from her grandma. One day the old man thinks he has fulfilled every duty in life; he is ready to rest, and to be appreciated for such a dutiful life he has lived. However, most of the time, people hardly recall his glorious past and show respect, rather, they see him a dull old man, apt to be boring and disturbing. The old man now feels neglected and disrespected; yet, he is too weak to protect himself. Another challenge of being elderly is the one that comes directly from the elderly themselves â€Å"the negative reactions toward the old-age. There are two starkly opposite reactions an elderly may have. In one way, the old man mentally cannot accept the fact that he is already old, most of the advantages he once had have become past, or useless. Among them are health, wealth, fame and beauty. The boasters, the snobs, the flatterers, or the demagogues, none of them can bother him or distract him from enjoying his life. He does not have to ask anybody in order to know who he is. He knows himself so he is happy and safe. One question a man often asks himself is what the meaning of his life might be; the older he is, the nearer he gets to the answer. When he is young, he continuously chases after ambitions, one after one. He wins some times, loses some times, and learns lesson every time. Will he ever stop? No, and still no when he is old. However, things are different when he is old. It is not that he stops having ambitions; it is that he is gentler with ambitions. Old man certainly has his wishes, like to live and die in dignity, or to be remembered by his beloved ones; and he pursues them gently and deliberately. This is because throughout the passage of time, and events he is more satisfied and thoughtful. Finally he has gained enough calm and wisdom to deeply perceive the meaning of his existence. When I was little, I by chance heard an old woman said, I have to confess that I desire the beauty of young ladies, but if I am asked to exchange all that I have experienced in my life for that beauty, I have to refuse. Now I have lived my life for almost thirty years, I find I agree with her. Every stage of life has its function and meaning; and all of them are worth appreciating and enjoying. I think that no matter how we are aged, we are still little children of the universe. There are so plenty of things out there to learn and to experience that 100 years cannot cover them all.
